Together we are strong: the solution is sector coupling
The energy transition requires more than just the expansion of renewable energy – it needs intelligent interconnection and the reliable coordination of generation, conversion, storage and consumption.
This is precisely where RAG comes in with its “Renewables AND Gas” approach: the integration of renewable energies with proven gas infrastructure.

Through sector coupling, electricity from solar and wind power in the summer is converted into storable energy carriers such as hydrogen for the winter. These can be stored in large-volume underground storage facilities and reused as needed – for example, for industry, electricity or heat production.
This approach makes it possible to balance out temporal and spatial differences between energy generation and consumption. Surpluses from renewable summer electricity production are not simply wasted, but are instead made available for use in winter.
RAG acts as a link in the energy system: between generation, storage and use. The result is a networked, flexible system that combines security of supply with climate targets – technologically sound and economically viable.
